Too Wonderful

Psalm 139:1-6 (NIV) You have searched me, Lord, and you know me.

2 You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.

3 You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.

4 Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely.

5 You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me.

6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.

Too Wonderful

The ways of God are too wonderful.. too lofty to attain.

Wonderful – to elicit wonder.

Does God ever fill you with wonder?

Seeds

Ever stop and think about seeds?

Seed and Tree

Something so small as a seed has such big life within it. Inside a single seed is enough life to produce forests of trees.

God created plants to give off seed after their kind back in Genesis 1. Still today a tomato seed brings forth a tomato, an apple seed an apple tree, a watermelon seed a watermelon vine.

Seeds that fly

Dandelion

-Cottonwood, Cattails, Milkweed

Winged seed

Pine Cone – Winged Seed

Exploding seeds

Adhesive seeds

Hitchhiker Seed

Sticker Seed

Floating seeds

 Coconut Husk

The coconut has taken over the south pacific.

The coconut will fall to the ground and a storm will carry the coconut to the ocean, where the coconut is carried to a new island. Upon landing on the new island the coconut will propagate itself.  The coconut even provides its own water as the roots grow deep to find its an underground water source.

How God could put so much care and creative ingenuity in something so small as a seed?

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me.

Too Wonderful

Animals

Kolea bird -Travels 3000 miles across the Pacific Ocean – From Alaska to Hawaii.

How does it not get lost? Some people think that they can sense the magnetic poles of the Earth.

Lucky bird… spends the summer in Alaska and the winter in Hawaii.

It lays its eggs in Alaska and then the parent birds leave back towards Hawaii leaving the younglings behind. When the younglings are strong enough they also fly to Hawaii, even though they have never been to the Island.

Sometimes they fly through storms during the 3000 mile flight, and yet they course correct and find their destination.

Science thinks the birds can sense the magnetic poles and uses the sensation to navigate… but science has no answer for how these bird brains can navigate to an island they have never been too.

All the fascinating creatures on our planet remind me of a creator who’s knowledge is too wonderful.

Take a cup full of water from a pond and look at it under a microscope and you will see what your human eye could not detect. Under the microscope you will see that the water is teeming with life.

Even at the smallest microscopic level, the great God of the universe has authored life. Your knowledge is too wonderful Lord.

Space

Earth – Perhaps you recognize this planet?

Solar System – Here we see Earth compared within the other planets in its solar system.

Sun – Here we compare the solar system to the sun

What could be bigger than the sun?   PLENTY!

Pollux – The stars Sirius and Pollux make the sun look small… and now the Earth is the size of a single pixel in comparison.

As you lift your eyes above you realize the heavens declare the glory of God, and his ways are too wonderful.

Hubble Square – In 2003 the Hubble Square focused its attention on a seemingly blank spce in the night sky. For 4 months the Hubble Telescope took in all of the light information it could receive from this blank piece of heavenly canvas.

Here is what lied within that blank space…

Hubble Square Galaxies – What you are seeing is not planets… but galaxies filled with planets.

What had appeared blank… what seemed like an overlooked square in God’s creation were galaxies.

Hubble Square Galaxies InfoEach dot is a galaxy.

Each galaxy contains up to 1 Trillion stars… (a 1 with 12 zeroes)

Each star may have a solar system of planets.

This seemingly blank square contains over 10,000 galaxies.

Creator God, your ways are too wonderful.

Too Wonderful

Human Body

Eyes & Ears

Your eyes take in light and your brain receives it as information. Your brain is telling you what you are seeing.

Your ears take in differences in sound & air pressure and your brain receives it as information. Your brain is telling you what you are hearing.

All of your senses are amazing… touch, smell, taste… Without these senses we could not experience the world.

You don’t have to pay for any of these abilities… God gave them to you to enjoy.

You are not able to replicate these abilities… Such knowledge is too wonderful.

Proteins

Think a moment about receiving nutrient.

You eat the food and the food moves through your intestines.  The thin lining of your intestines is keeping waste from entering your body. If the waste is not contained within your colon then your body will go septic.

Your intestine acts as a barrier yet also allows the nutrient within the waste to be absorbed.

Your intestine is like a gatekeeper that says no to what is harmful and says yes to what your body needs to thrive.

There are proteins in your intestine that act as a doorway…

Proteins that allow nutrient to be absorbed into your body.

And should your body need to get rid of excess nutrient, it can access the intestine through these proteins and send the excess nutrient out of your body.

Every time you eat a meal, your body is working in this highly technical way.

Psalm 139:13-14 (NIV) For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

God searches you… knows you…
God is familiar with all your ways…
God knows your thoughts and words…

Such knowledge is too wonderful.

When we consider who we are and who His…
When we consider what we deserve and compare it to what He has given us…

It is clear that God is too wonderful.

Psalm 8:3-4 (KJV) 3When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; 4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

What God has placed into creation is great. The care he put in making the universe, animals, plants, and humanity is too wonderful for us to really comprehend, but even greater than creation is when God stepped into creation and visited us.

Isaiah 9:6 (NIV)For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
    Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Jesus is that wonderful child born and wonderful son given.

We should not doubt this wonderful God.

He placed His wonder into creation…
He placed wonder in you…
The one who is wonderful has visited us.

Too Wonderful

Does God fill you with wonder?
