Today
Your Secret Advantage – The Source for your Best

Advantages are good.
You have several.

Your advantages

  • Jesus – Perfect example for your family.
  • Your Church – Serves your family.

Not talking about these today…

An advantage everyone has TODAY…

Imagine this:

Messy home…
“Eh, I’ll do it tomorrow.”

Check Engine…
“Eh, I’ll do it tomorrow.”

At work or school…
“Eh, I’ll do it tomorrow.”

We’ve all been there.
Procrastination — it’s sneaky.

Procrastination creeps into our lives… even the most important areas—like our families.

Now Imagine this:
Distant spouse…
“I’ll have a deep conversation tomorrow…”

Struggling kids…

I’ll spend more time with the kids tomorrow…

“We’ll start those healthier family habits… tomorrow.”

The truth is, we’ve said ‘tomorrow’ so many times that we forget ‘tomorrow’ never really arrives.  WE ONLY HAVE TODAY.

Your Secret Advantage – Today

No matter what you are facing…

-Guilt…

-Broken relationships…
-The aftermath of bad decisions…

-Debt

-Bad health

The answer for whatever you are facing is found in TODAY.

The Bible says this many times and in many way… Jesus says…

Matthew 6:34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Jesus is standing in front of people who are not focused on TODAY… but TOMORROW.

TOMORROW Jesus may be in another town…  TODAY he is with these people.

Jesus is telling us to focus on today.

Tomorrow is a source of Anxiety.
Yesterday is a source of Regret.

Today is a source for Triumph.

God would have us live in TODAY…
Are we living somewhere else?
Are you living in yesterday?
Are you living in tomorrow?

Champions focus on today!
Today is a source of Triumph.

  • 80% students procrastinate often
  • Higher levels of stress, anxiety, depression.
  • Links to hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and heart disease

Shocking stat….

2 Hours and 25 Minutes

That is the average amount of time spent procrastinating every day.

Don’t we often say… “I don’t have enough time?”

Today is our secret advantage.
Take advantage of Today

Here is how.

1. Start Simple & Small, but Start Today

Not complicated…

Grow spiritually?
– Start with 5 min pray
– 1 Chapter Bible read

Grow relationally?
– 10 minute talk (no phones)

– Schedule a game night

Family 30 challenge – Make it simpler and smaller – BUT START TODAY.

2. Set a Visible Reminder

-sticky note
-dry erase marker message
-Family30 glow in the dark bracelet
-set a calendar reminder

Little things keep the important things top of mind.

3. Create your Family Mission

Take time to define your mission.

What kind of family do you want to be? Once you have that mission, procrastination becomes harder to justify because you’re working toward something greater.

Anything is possible TODAY.

Say that! Declare that!

The great thing about today.. it’s always right here, right now.
So, what will you do with it?

Act TODAY!

1 Stop waiting for the perfect time.

You only have today.

2 Do something RIGHT NOW.

Repent for yesterday.
Pray for strength & wisdom.
Worship & thank God.
Pray for your family.

3 Take a step & receive prayer
