It’s always frustrating when things break.  It’s even more frustrating to realize that sometimes we break.  Although it isn’t comfortable, sometimes it’s okay when we break, if we are willing to trust ourselves into the hands of the One who can fix us and make us better.

Broken in 90 Days

by Marshal Blessing Redemption Sermon Notes

Welcome …        What did you get for Christmas?…  What did your kids get?…  Book
50% of all toys given last Christmas Broken in 90 days – Last Tuesday – March 25
What else broken in last 90 days?
Something around house, computer, car, New Year’s resolution, Lent, promise, relationship, budget
World:  Bitcoins, Malaysian flight, relations with Russia
Things Break – frustrating, inconvenient, we depend on things to work
Ian – everything is broken – RATATOOLEY is broken – toast is broken – don’t know where: broken
Few things that never broken:  God’s Word, God’s love, God’s plan   (Heaven and earth pass away…)
But what about us?  We Break
Our word, relationship, plan – our bodies physically wear out over time, get damaged – We break
Not always – inspired by stories of perseverance – Marathon, mudslide
Carlos Hathcock II – most successful US Sniper – Vietnam – White Feather
Unknown mission – NVA General – 1500 yards – four days, three nights without sleep
Afterward regretted taking the mission – Retaliation by NVA increased US casualties
Sometimes it’s okay When We Break
First – in some things we should never break – Do not grow weary in well doing, our word, our faith
Difference between perseverance and stubbornness
Some things in our life need to break – some things we’re holding on to that aren’t helping us,
relationships that are broken, but we don’t want to admit,
we need t o be broken to get past the pride that tells us we don’t need God
We believe in all things God can work for the good of those who love Him and are called
More than that some things need to be broken – Israelites in the wilderness, alabaster box
Some things are made to be broken
They say rules are made to be broken – Some things are made to break to prevent worse damage
Story of the fuse…
If something seems broken in your life, if little things aren’t working, look for a bigger problem
Proverbs 29:1 NIV A man who remains stiff-necked after many rebukes will suddenly be destroyed-without remedy.
Sometimes it’s okay When We Break
Matthew 21:44 AMP And whoever falls on this Stone will be broken to pieces, but he on whom It falls will be crushed to powder [and it will winnow him, scattering him like dust].
Who is the stone – Jesus
Broken bones can be set right, it’s better to broken to be fixed than destroyed
“If your eye causes you to sin…”
Psalm 51 is well known – David’s psalm of repentance – David was broken
“Create in me a clean heart oh God, and renew a right spirit within me.”
Psalm 51:17 NIV 2011 My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.
God is making us into something better.
John 15:1-2 NIV I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.
Pruning can be painful, but it will allow our lives to bear more spiritual fruit.
[Story of stubborn Simon Peter – do you love me?  Maybe – John 21:15-17] We are made to be something better. Our current state broken compared to what God created us to be.
God will make us new, if we are willing to be broken.  Broken as world sees it; we’re really being fixed.
Like surgery – a little injury to repair a bigger problem – God is the one to trust
God is preparing us for his kingdom – and as he does some of the earthly parts of our lives look broken
We carry this treasure in jars of clay…
2 Corinthians 5:1-2 NIV For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling,
[Example with the cup – light – water  – maybe]                               ***MUSICIAN***
Good newsThings Break – Long winter, finally spring, this world is breaking, dawn is breaking
Romans 13:12 NIV The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.
I challenge you.  In the next 90 days, what needs to be broken.  Talk to God, what can you let go?
Altar.
