Is your family important?
What about the families around you?

  2.                    Domestic Violence +33%.

Let’s ask again…

How important are families?

Is your family important?
What about the families around you?

Where should we go for help?
Self-help books?
Therapy/counseling/coaches?
Good choices… better choice?

God created “Family”

God loves your family – answers in His word.

Genesis 2

God creates ADAM (‘āḏām) from the GROUND (‘ăḏāmâ)

Genesis 2:18 (NIV) The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”

God creates everything good…

Let there be light… it is good.
Let there be sky and water… it is good.
Lands, plants, animals… it is good.

BUT GOD CREATES A PERSON… “IT IS NOT GOOD ALONE”

We are not good alone… We need family.
Single, widowed, empty nesters, we still need family.

Adam needed family…

Genesis 2:22-24

Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

23 The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.”

24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.

God created family by taking OF ADAM and FOR ADAM.

Took the rib – of Adam
Made a wife – for Adam.

Family is OF YOU and FOR YOU.

Your children are OF YOU and FOR YOU.

God’s design is for your children to leave one day and find someone to continue this idea of family.

God created “Family”

We should understand His design.

Divorce is not His design…
Domestic violence is not…
Zombie children staring at screens…
Absentee dads…

Let’s get back to the design.

Week 1 – Discover your Family’s MISSION and WIN!

A verse that often causes people to bristle…

Ephesians 5:22-24

22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

What word causes people to bristle? SUBMIT

SUBMISSION

This feels like a negative word.

Slave mentality… loss of independence
Being controlled

Unhealthy balance of power
Emotional harm
Feeling trapped or unable to speak.

These thoughts hurt families… So let’s rethink submission.

Sub/Under  Mission

Under Mission

We come under the mission of Jesus and work to achieve the mission.

What would it look like to come under the mission of your family to achieve its mission?

Not CONTROLLING but EMPOWERING.

Not HELPLESS but HELPFUL.

Not ENSLAVED but SERVING.

Ephesians 5:21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.

What would it look like to SUBMIT… to come under the mission of…

Your husband?
Your wife?
Your children?
For kids to come under the mission of the parents?

Submission is not a negative now.. but a positive.

It is a gift you give to someone you love… who is on a mission.

Delegating Tasks

Someone needs to take out the trash…
Go do this… Do it now…

Not a great feeling…

Try a different method…

Delegating Tasks

Delegating Authority

I give you authority to help the mission…

Use your mind…
Use your giftings…
Use your time…

Are there still tasks? YES.
We still need to take out the trash… ALWAYS

There is a deadline…
These are the tasks…
I give you the authority to get these important tasks done in the way you think best.

  1. Teaches delegation of authority
  2. Teaches time management, problem solving.
  3. Teaches thinking

Then you follow up.

 -Make corrections

 -Celebrate mission accomplished

Working together as a family to accomplish a mission is WINNING.

What is your Family’s Mission?

If you asked everyone in your home… what would they say?
Wildly different answers?
