Limitless 3 – Limitless Wisdom

Pastor Chris FluittSermons

God has Limitless Wisdom.

The world is looking for a lot of things. The world looks for peace, cleaner air & water, stronger economies, innovation, success, power, a better life… on and on the list of what the world seeks is long.
But is the world seeking wisdom? Perhaps wisdom is not very high on the list of things the world is seeking.
The world seeks INFORMATION, but WISDOM is much more than information. Our culture knows how to get information better than any previous generation, but wisdom is more than info. Wisdom is UNDERSTANDING.
God has limitless wisdom. Stop asking google, siri, or alexa for information. Ask God for wisdom.

My name is Chris Fluitt and I want to welcome you to Redemption Church. Hello to our online audience and also those in the room. I am glad to be preaching to you today.
We are in the 3rd week of our LIMITLESS sermon series.

Limitless

limitless love
We talked about Limitless Power in week 1. Last week we talked about Limitless Love.
Today I want to encourage you find Limitless Wisdom.

Limitless Wisdom

limitless wisdom
The world is looking for a lot of things. The world looks for peace, cleaner air & water, stronger economies, innovation, success, power, a better life… on and on the list of what the world seeks is long.
But is the world truly seeking wisdom? I feel like wisdom is not very high on the list of things the world is seeking.
Now the world seeks information, but wisdom is much more than information.
ALEXA
Our society knows how to get information.

  • “Alexa… who was Major League Baseball’s  American League MVP in 2001.”
  • “Alexa what is the forecast for today?”
  • “Alexa what does proverbs 3:13 say?”
  • “Alexa tell me a joke.”

Our society knows how to get information.
Our culture knows how to get information better than any previous generation, but wisdom is so much more than information.  Wisdom is about understanding.

  • “Alexa how can I be a great baseball player?”
  • “Alexa what should I wear today to impress my boss?”
  • “Alexa how should I prioritize my problems to achieve more success this year?”
  • “Alexa how can I stop being lonely and start having meaningful relationships?”

She knows plenty of info, but has no wisdom or understanding to share.
This is why we see smart people make unwise decisions. They know info but they lack understanding.
This is why Washington DC is such an unwise place. They have a lot of data, but they are unwise in what to do with that data.
This is why you should turn off the news sometimes. They have lots of information but no wisdom to share.

If only we had a place we could turn to for wisdom…

God has Limitless Wisdom

God wisdom limitless
We serve the only wise God.
Romans 16:27 (NIV2011) to the only wise God be glory forever through Jesus Christ! Amen.   (Also Jude 1:25)
Job 12:13 (NIV2011) “To God belong wisdom and power; counsel and understanding are his.  (Also Daniel 2:20)
Proverbs 9:10 (NIV2011) The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

Colossians 2:2 (NIV2011)…that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ,
Colossians 2:3 (NIV2011) in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
We probably know this information. BUT do you live with the wisdom of God?  Do you seek God’s wisdom?
Proverbs 2:6 (NIV2011) For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
James 1:5 (NIV2011) If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
God has limitless wisdom, but too often we only want information. Too often we come to God with ‘yes or no’ questions and we have little patience for a conversation.  “God just tell me yes or no… should I put $50 on the Vikings to win the Super Bowl this year?”
God wants to talk to you. God wants to give you wisdom.  But you only want information… And usually we just want information that backs up the decision we already made.
It is unwise to come to God with a decision already made… It is so much wiser to come asking, God what would you have me do and what understanding can I gain from this situation.

Sarah and I were buying our first house in 2013, and we were trying to figure out what to do with our condo property. We had no clue what to do. We knew what the easy thing to do was. The easy thing to do would be to sell. It would sell easy for about 80 thousand (at the time) and we paid 67 thousand for it.  We could have just made the decision based on the information and walked away saying “Praise the Lord. We made a profit.”
We had pretty much made the decision to sell and then it hit me… “We should ask God.”

We should ask God

pray ask god
Stop making decisions without asking God. He is the only wise God… you aren’t! If anyone lacks wisdom they should ask God!  The Lord gives wisdom!
When I asked God what we should do I felt strongly that we would regret selling the condo at that time. So I knew we should keep the condo and rent it out… BUT I now need to tell my wife Sarah. I am about to tell my wife that we need to do something more difficult and risky. We need to have 2 mortgages…
I needed more than information here. I needed more than, it is a better economic decision to not sell.  I needed wisdom in how to communicate the new plan. “God how do I tell Sarah?”
God brought to my mind a story that Sarah had shared once about her grandfather regretting the unwise decision of selling several houses he built. He sold them to simply get out from under the cost and because it was easy.  That was a million dollar decision, but he didn’t know it at the time.
So I told Sarah what I felt God said and I reminded her of this story.  I took God’s wisdom and communicated it and my wife received it.  I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was operating in the prophetic because I told my wife things… risky things like… This property is going to help us financially to send our kids to college one day. I said things that felt right when they came out of my mouth but in my mind I was thinking “wait a sec do you really know that!?”
God’s wisdom is prophetic. God’s wisdom will make you look like a genius. His wisdom is better than your knowledge. You can trust God’s wisdom.
Today, that property we almost let go of for around 80 thousand, we could sell it for 130 thousand today.
Sarah and I are not real estate savvy. We are not brilliant investors. BUT with God’s wisdom we made a 50 thousand dollar decision.
No one else has ever given me 50 thousand dollar wisdom before.
Would you like a 50 thousand dollar blessing today? I can’t promise you 50 thousand, but I can promise you blessing in His wisdom.
Proverbs 3:13 (NIV2011) Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding,
Proverbs 3:14 (NIV2011) for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold.
Proverbs 3:15 (NIV2011) She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her.
Proverbs 3:16 (NIV2011) Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor.
Proverbs 3:17 (NIV2011) Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace.
Proverbs 3:18 (NIV2011) She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her; those who hold her fast will be blessed.

Sarah and I learned to ask God for wisdom. In the last year we bought a new house in Plano and I don’t have time to tell you that story but God made us look like geniuses again. It’s His wisdom!
You may know about our son, Will, how he was diagnosed with Autism this past year. That is pretty big issue. Here is how I am praying for my son Will.  “God, give me your wisdom. Gove me your understanding.  I want my son healed, but what I really can’t live without is your wisdom.”
What issues are you dealing with?  God give us your wisdom. Lord we won’t settle for information. We want Your wisdom!

Stop asking Google, Siri, or Alexa what you should do. Ask God for wisdom!

The times I asked God for wisdom are the moments where miracles happened.
I was on a hospital gurney with a broken ankle. I remember I stopped asking God to heal me, and I asked God “what are you trying to teach me.”  I walked out of that place healed.
I felt lonely and depressed and asked God “what are you trying to tell me.” I remember Him giving me the wisdom… “It is time for you to find your wife.” In a few weeks I saw her for the first time in front of Taco Diner wearing pink shoes.
I was needing information on what to do with my life and was worried I would choose the wrong career and disappoint God… and miss out on the will of God. I asked God at a Taco Cabana and God didn’t give me the information of what He required… He gave me wisdom and understanding of what was already in my heart to do. God gave me the clarity to know that He would be with me in whatever job I chose.
There is wisdom in this room today. There is understanding available to you.
You need wisdom more than a new car… more than a pay raise… more than that new cell phone.
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
It is here for the asking. Come today and ask.
