Acts 29

Acts 29 isn’t in the book of Acts. Then why did we preach an entire sermon over the 29th chapter of Acts? Listen to our podcast or read our post to find out more. The reason the 29th chapter isn’t in the book of acts is because YOU are the 29th chapter. God’s testimony of what he is doing is continued through the church today, through his holy spirit working in your life.

Welcome to Redemption Church in Plano Tx. My name is Chris Fluitt and I am thankful for everyone worshipping with us in person, and everyone connecting with us on online.

Turn in your Bibles to Acts 29.

It is important that we look to the Word of God.
Build our lives on the Word…
“The word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword…” Hebrews 4:12

Say Amen when you have found Acts 29… beginning at verse 1.

Acts 29

The book of Acts is 28 chapters long.

The last written verse of Acts is Acts 28 verse 31. Well let’s read that.

Acts 28:31 (NIV) He proclaimed the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ—with all boldness and without hindrance!

Let’s compare how the book of Acts ends to thee rest of the New Testament.

Matthew 28:20 (NKJV) teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

Mark 16:20 (NKJV) And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.

Luke 24:53 (NKJV) and were continually in the temple praising and blessing God. Amen.

John 21:25 (NKJV) And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. Amen.

Romans 16:27 (NKJV) to the only wise God be glory forever through Jesus Christ! Amen.

Revelation 22:21 (NKJV) The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen.

Amen – truly, so be it

The New Testament writers would close their books with an “amen.”
It signified THE END of that writing.

The gospels, the letters, and Revelation have amens at the end…

Acts has no amen

Why doesn’t Acts have an Amen at the end of chapter 28?

The book of Acts is the Actions of the Apostles.
-The works of the Church of Jesus.
-The story of God moving in the Earth.

There is no AMEN because this story still continues.

Acts 29

I told you to turn to Acts 29… We are Acts 29.

Do we really know what this means?

The living God is not done.

Dust off your Bible, because God is still writing the story.

Acts 1:8 (NIV) 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Acts 2:4 (NIV) 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

God’s Spirit doesn’t just fill rooms… He fills people!

Acts 2:41 (NIV) Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.

Acts 3:6-7 (NIV) 6 Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” 7 Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong.

Acts 4:3-4 (niv) 3 They seized Peter and John and, because it was evening, they put them in jail until the next day. 4 But many who heard the message believed; so the number of men who believed grew to about five thousand.

Persecuted – but exploding in growth because of the message.

Acts 4:12 (NIV) 12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

Acts 5:14-16 (NIV)  14 Nevertheless, more and more men and women believed in the Lord and were added to their number. 15 As a result, people brought the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and mats so that at least Peter’s shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by. 16 Crowds gathered also from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those tormented by impure spirits, and all of them were healed.

Acts 29

In Acts 6 the church fed their community. The widows were fed by young ministers like Stephen and Phillip.
As they served the community, the Word of God increased.

Acts 7 There is death. Stephen the first martyr. But even this is powerful and life changing.

Acts 7:58-59 (NIV) Meanwhile, the witnesses laid their coats at the feet of a young man named Saul.

59 While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” 60 Then he fell on his knees and cried out, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” When he had said this, he fell asleep.

Acts 8:4-5 (NIV) 4 Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went. 5 Philip went down to a city in Samaria and proclaimed the Messiah there.

Scattered but preaching.
Phillip goes to Samaria and preaches Jesus.

Acts 9 SAUL the enemy of the Church is seeking to imprison and murder every follower of Jesus.

Acts 9:3-5 (NIV) 3 As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. 4 He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”

5 “Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked. “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied.

Acts 10 God erases racial divides.  God speaks to a Gentile (non-Jew) named Cornelius to send for Peter. At that same time God speaks to Peter and prepares his heart to see God move in new people.

Peter preaches to these Gentiles…

Acts 10:44-46 (NIV) 44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. 45 The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles. 46 For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God.

Acts 29

That is the first 10 chapters of the book of Acts.  Every chapter powerful.

Do you believe this is still possible?

Acts has no AMEN. We are living in Acts 29.

*John 14:12 (NIV) Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things…

Who wants greater.

The gospel of Jesus still works.
The power of the Spirit is still being poured out.
