Happy New Year!

We want to see you have the best year ever.

2020 Vision

  • We don’t want this year to be like last year. DIFFERENT! We need to be different in 2020.
  • We need a MISSION & a VISION.
    • Mission is the WHAT. What are you going to do.
    • Vision is the HOW. How are you going to do it.

Habakkuk 2:2 encouraged us to write down a vision from the Lord

Habakkuk 2:2 (NIV2011) Then the Lord replied: “Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it.

You need a mission & vision from the Lord.
You should WRITE IT DOWN. You should remember it and set out to accomplish it.
A vision so compelling that others will want to run with your vision.

We need a mission & vision. I wonder if Jesus has a mission & vision written down in Scripture.

Jesus a man of Mission and Vision

Think for a moment. Does Jesus have a mission & vision statement in scripture?

  • WHAT did Jesus come to do? What was His mission?

John 6:38 (NIV2011) For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me.

Jesus came to do the will of the father. EXCLUSIVELY He did the will of the Father.

…And what was the Father’s will?

John 6:40 (NIV2011) For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”

This is WHAT Jesus came to do! He says it differently throughout the Gospels, but it is the same 1 mission.

Luke 19:10 (NIV2011) For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

John 3:16 (NIV2011) For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Jesus came to do the will of the father and to save the lost.

Jesus has a mission! He knew WHAT He came to do!

Do we understand our mission? Do we know WHAT we are to do?

  • Did Jesus have a vision? Did Jesus know HOW he was going to accomplish?

Matthew 4:17 (NIV2011) From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”

Jesus preached repentance from sin. Jesus preached that God’s kingdom is a reality that is coming nearer and nearer.

Mark 10:45 (NIV2011) For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Not to be served… His HOW, his vision, was to serve, and to give his life.

Luke 4:18-19 (NIV2011) “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

Jesus is quoting Isaiah 61 and makes this his vision statement.

The Spirit of the Lord is on me and is anointing me – this is HOW Jesus is accomplishing.

How will he proclaim the good news to the poor? The Spirit’s anointing!

How will he proclaim freedom for the prisoner and sight to the blind? The Spirit’s anointing!

How will he set the oppressed free and proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor? The Spirit’s anointing!

Are you trying to accomplish your mission & vision without the Holy Spirit’s anointing?

The SPIRIT is HOW Jesus accomplished. He didn’t try to do anything without the Spirit.

Jesus has vision! He knew HOW He was going to accomplish.

Do we have vision? Do we know the HOW?

Jesus succeeded

His Mission and Vision were accomplished.

It is the reason we are here today.

Jesus 100% accomplished everything.

Why would we follow anyone else?

Who else is accomplished like Jesus?

I want t give you a key to Jesus’ success.

Jesus saw His Mission & Vision everywhere

Jesus saw his mission & vision in…

  • Every person. He saw it in people others would look past..
    • Fisher men – “Follow Me.”
    • A sinful woman about to be stoned.
    • A small man named Zacchaeus. Jesus called out to him…
  • Every situation
    • A wedding party
    • A hungry multitude
    • Random needs where people would run up to him asking for help.
  • Every day
    • He even made some people mad when He healed people on the Sabbath. Sorry but His mission & Vision NEVER RESTED.

See your Mission & Vision everywhere

Every person. – Even the people who you have trouble with…

Every Situation. – Even the problems…

Every Day. – Even the worst days.

Jesus Succeeded

Jesus wants you to succeed.

You don’t have to beg or bargain with Jesus.

He is for you and not against you.

Jesus wants to help you, empower you, and fight on your behalf.

Will you let Jesus help you?

I don’t know what you think your mission is… Family, financial, career, health, college… BUT Jesus wants you to succeed.
Jesus is a man of mission & vision who succeeded in every way. As people of Jesus He desires that we be people of mission & vision and walk in continued success.

Jesus has given you a mission

Do you care about the mission Jesus has given you?

Do you know Jesus’s mission for you?

John 13:34-35 (NIV2011) “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

Your mission – Love others with the love of Jesus.

Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV2011) Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Your Mission – Make disciples.

Are you too busy with your own personal mission, so that God’s mission for you is not a priority?

Matthew 6:31-32 (NIV2011) So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.

When you make HIS mission a priority, great things happen!

Matthew 6:33 (NIV2011) But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

When you seek first God’s mission, not only will you accomplish this spiritual mission, but all the other missions will be added.

Is God’s mission first place in your life or is it down the list of priority?

Scripture declares many times…

It will be added to you… (Matthew 6:33)

He will give you power… (Acts 1:8)

He will give you the desires of your heart… (Proverbs 16:3, Psalm 37:4)

If you really care about your personal mission, then you ought to make God’s mission take first place in your life. Seek first the kingdom of God.

Can you make God’s Mission FIRST? priority
